Duolingo: 1600 Day Streak!

Today marks a 1600 day streak in Duolingo. Currently doing the German Course.

Honestly, I've started to hate the app awhile ago. I think my biggest complaint is that I have no control over the changes they make. The reward structure is completely broken. I miss when you used to get a 2x bonus for finishing a lesson. There were more opportunities for experience bonuses, so you could spread it out. Now, if I want to get the max amount of XP I have to do an extended session the first time I login. Sometimes it could be between 1-2 hours. I've actually gotten mad when I open a chest and it extended my XP increase window. I have actually avoided opening a chest if I'm already in a session that is dragging on.

Now that I have setup the Google gmail API I am going to work on making my own language learning app. I get daily word emails in several languages. The plan is to use Python to pull all those words into a database to build a bespoke app.

If an app has a streak counter it is a big turn off for me. I don't want to be guilted into using a product.
